THIS DAY.

An ordinary meeting of the general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at 2 p.m. to-day ; present— Mr E. G. Staveley (president, in the chair), Sir John Hall, Messrs J. Deans, W. Henderson, 6. Garrorth, H. P. Murray-Aynsley, H. Overton, A>. MMillan, P. Duncan, J. Gould, C. £&wis, 0. J. Wilson, W. Eeece, E. H. Rhodes, W. Boag, J. J; Kmsey. J. Anderson, juc, F. A. Archer, J. T. Ford, Hon J. l. Peacock, and Dr Levin ge. A letter waa read from the Railway Department, pointing ont that the statements made as to the redaction in the carriage of lime were erroneoas and misleading. Sir John Hall said as he had drawn the comparison he felt bonnd to justify himself. He had obtained information from the railway that morning which showed that he had been misled by the previous notice, that having since been superseded by another. He moved—" That the department be informed that the rates had been calculated on a published tariff, and the Association was now glad to find that the rates were more favourable." This was agreed to. Lettarß were read from the Falmerston North Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the Geraldine Farmers' Club, and the Egmont Agricultural aiid Pastoral Association, suggesting that the Government should be asked to call a con-

ference of delegates from Agricultural and Pastoral and kindred Booieties, to be held in Wellington, to consider the present unsatisfactory state of the frozen meat trade, and also to discuss, Mr Nathan's scheme.

After some discussion,, in which the opinion was expressed that the Government should not be asked to take the initiative, it was resolved—" That in the event of a conference of ; delegates from A. and P. The Christohtirch Horticultural Society asked upon what terms it would be allowed to hold an exhibition on the Shew Grounds during the show weefr. : • : --•

: It was decided to allow the Society the use of the ground required gratis for this year.

Accounts to the amount of £47 15a 6d were passed for payment.

It was decided to hold the annual show on Nov. 7 and 8 and the sale on Nov. 9. ■

The resolution passed at the last general meeting referring the matter of the erection of a grandstand back to the committee was then discussed, and Meßsrs H. Overton, W; Reece, H. P. Murray - Aynsley, J. Grigg, P. Cunningham, J. Anderson, jun, C. Lewis, G. Gould, Sir John Hall and the President and Vice-Preßident were appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter, and to call for alternative designs for a grand stand and luncheon booth, either in one building or separately, at a total cost not exceeding £1250. The committee was authorised to employ outaide expert advice if thought advisable. Tne Chairman Baid Mr Murphy (the secretary) had attended the Danedin winter show, and had brought up a very interesting report thereon. It was decided to have the report printed and circulated amongst the members of the committee. The meeting then closed.
