The Minibteb op Lands.— The Hon J. M'Kenzie arrived from the south by the I expreßß laßt night, and went to Warner's Hotel. The state of his health will not permit him to transact any public business, and he will leave for the north to-night. Nbw Australia. — Last night Mr J. O'Bryen Hoare gave a lecture in the Art Gallery oa the New Australia experiment. He said that communistic settlements all over thfl world had proved failures, and that one of the chief reasons for the failure of the New Australia settlement was that men of the wrong stamp had conducted it. A discussion followed the address. Woolst&n School Committee.— The monthly meeting of this committee wan held on Monday night ; present — Messrs J J. M. Douglass (ohaiimßn), Anderson, j Bai<ey, Edkinn, M'Diarmid, Manifold and J. Richardson. The Chairman reported that the tender of Mr M.' Do well fox co*\ ' and firewood had been accepted. It was decided that the Eev Bcorgie should be invited to give Scripture lessons in the school one afternoon eaoh week. Business in connection with the opening of the new intant school was transacted. The headmaster's report ehowed an average attendance of 497. The number on the roll was 562. Several repairs to the school and grounds were authorised. The question of concerts and attendance prizea was fully discussed, and Messrs Douglass, Cleworth and M'Diarmid Were empowered to make necessary arrangements.
