HA WEE A, June 11. The proposal to raise a loan for water and drainage in the Hawera borough was lost by seven votes, though the required majority of votes was obtained.
WELLINGTON, June 11. Mr M'Ewan, the dairy expert, has decided to remain in the Government service. Dairy schools are to be opened at Edendale (Southland) and Stafford (Taranaki) for the purpose of giving free instruction to managers and assistants in butter and cheese factories. The course will extend over four or five weeks.
TIMABU, June 11. . The Harbour Board to-day resolved that plans be prepared of a SOOfb extension at the outer end of the breakwater for submission to a Royal Commission, and that .£BSOO received by the sale of the tug, and ,£2OOO fron? another source, be earmarked as the nucleus of a fund for its construction, if sanctioned.
DUNEDIN, June 11. The Licensing Bench, on Mr Carew's casting vote, granted a renewal of license to Mrs Brann, who had been convicted of selling liquor on the racecourse.
