MELBOURNE, June 10.

At a meeting of shareholders in. the Broken Hill Central Mine some warm remarks were parsed nnent the proposed sale 'of the property. One speaker alleged that the syndicate wanted the mine for d new secret process of treatment of sulphides. They did not desire to publish the secret to the world, but. wished to work if in this way to the fullest advantage. Mr Adams, mine manager, explained his aotion in announcing the new discovery. Its probable value might be about £15,000, but he could not tell definitely. The Chairman stated that the syndicate wag willing to allow shareholders to benefit by the new find.

An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders in the Humphreys Gully Company was held this afternoon. The local shareholders were largely repre-. eented, and seventy thousand proxies were handed in. A resolution, accepting the offer of Mr David Zitnan to provide additional capital to bring in the Arahura River, was unanimously carried. Mr Ziman offered to provide J820,000 at once if the company found the remaining £30,000 and started operations immediately. Mr Ziman will provide the capital from London and Paris.

East Chbistchubch School Committee. ■I—Thei — The monthly meeting of the committee was held at the main school on Thursday; prosent — Messrs J. T. Smith (chairman), J. S. Williams, D. Lumsden, J. Jamieson, S. Clarke and J. B. Brunt. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs M. Sandstein, H. Allison aud F. J. Board. The head-master, in his report, stated that the attendance at the schools daring the past three months had been, on the whole, satisfactory. He had served sevaral notices on parents for the non-attendance of children, and recommended that proceedings should be taken against one householder as a test case. He also pointed out that some repairs were required at the Phillipstown and South Belt BChoola. After passing accounts the meeting closed.

Kiveb Board. — A meeting of the South Waimakariri River Board was held yesterday afternoon; present — Messrs W. Boag (chairman), E. M. Taylor, R. W. England, C. F. Money, J. C. Atkinson, H. W. Peryman and T. Wilson. The Overseer reported that on May 27 there had been a flood in the river, and that it had snnk a number of the large concrete blocks at the end cf No. 10 embankment. These had been replaced by puttiDg in twelve caskß of cement, and twenty more casks wero needed. The xiver was still taking away the land between Nos. 8 and 9 groins at Chaney'a. It was time for the Board to consider the queetion of trae-planting and also to call for tenders for the basket willows in Stewart's Gully. > The Overseer waa authorised to proceed with the necessary repairs to No. 10 embankment, and to report on the auestion of tree-planting. Ifc wa3 decided to'call for tenders for the basket willows. After dealing with a quantity of routine business the Board rose.
