THE TRUCK ACT.

A case was heard in the Magiatrate'e Court a. Wellington yesterday, in which a firm of timber merchants sued one of their late employes for goods, amounting in value to £2d 3s 9d, the claim being reduced to £6 14s 9d, after allowing a set-off, chiefly composed of deductions from wages, amounting to £22 9s. Counsel for the defendant submitted that the plaintiffs must be nonsuited, as the claim was in contravention of Clause 7 of the Truck Act, 1891. Mr Mar .in upheld this contention, and nonsuited the plaintiffs.
