The Winton Murder Charges.

[Per Press Association.! INVEBCAEGILL, June 7.

When the charge of the murder o£ Dorothy Edith Carter figainst the Deans was resumed this morning, the Crown Prosecutor Btated that he proposed entering on a new line of evidence, with the object of -howing that on May 3 Mrs Dean had another infant entrusted to her, which she had also murdered. In tendering: the evidence ho relied on the judgment of the Privy Council in the Makin infanticide cases, wherein it was held that at a hearten? of an indictment for tho murder of one infant evidence could bo adduced of the finding* of 'other bodies in accused's garden. His object waa to show that the death of Dorothy Edith was not the result of accident Mib deaign. Mr Hanlon, for accused, objected, intimating that he would cany the objection to the Supreme Court, but the Magistrate, Mr Paynton, decided to admit the evidence.

Nothing new came out to-day in the Police Court inquiry regarding the alleged niurdera by the Deans. The evidence is, however, a little closer than given at the inquests. The Court is sitting late tonight to ende..vour to get through with the cases, as the Supreme Court sittings commence on Tuesday.

INVEBCARGILL, June S.

At the Magistrate's Court, Mr Poynton committed Minnie Dean for trial for the murder of Dorothy Edith Carter, and discharged Charles Dean. . He said there was no evidence at ail against Dean, and that he left; the Court without a stain on his character. The police, however, wera justified in arresting him, as they did "not know what evidence might crop up. He thought that where a husband and wife lived together, and bodiea wero found buried in their garden, it -was quite within reason that the police should suspect the husband of being connected • and had there been any evidence against bim at all, he would certainly have committed him. Mr Hanlon, solicitor for the accuaed, admitted that the police had acted fairly, and were entitled to credit for the way they had worked up the case. Dean shook hands with his solicitor, and left the Court. His wife will be tried at the sitting of the Supreme Court opening on Tuesday next.
