An ordinary meeting of this Council was held at the office of the Council, Culverden, on Saturday last; preaent — Messrs D. Rutherford (chairman), J. If. Davison, D. D. Macfarlane, F. H. Wilson, A. Macfarlane and F. S. Northcote. Correspondence was read and dealt with. It was reported that the labour gang had been employed during the month in repairing tbe Hawkswood Road, shingling bad places in the Waiau township, in forming about eighteen chains of the main North Road, near Higbfield, and in filling in with shingle the ruts along the Hanmer Plaius Road near Countess Creek. Tbe receipts for the month were.: Rates -866743 6d, and dog tax 12a 6d. There waß a balance to the credit of the general account of .£279 .2s 7d, of the water-race account £Z7 Bs, and of the Government loans to local bodies acconnt .£639. It was resolved to inform the Minister of Lands that the Waiau Bridge was being kept in repair, and to request him to appoint a .commission to apportion the amount adjoining local bodies were to pay towards the cost of maintenance. It was alsoresolved— " That the overseer make out a specification and call for tenders for widening certain por* tions of the Conway cutting; that the •North Road maintenance man be instructed to make drains to carry off surface water, as requested by Messrs H. Wharton and Co." After passing acoounts amounting to .£429 16s, the meeting closed.
