WAIPAWA, Jttnb 6. j Captain Ruasell addressed hia constitu- | entß here laat night. Referring to the | Cheviot purchase, he pointed out that the settlers were already asking for a reduction of their rent, which- proved that the Government had paid too much. If people could not pay the rent the situation would have to be faced. They could not drive the settlers off after spending their all in improvements, and the loss would have to be borne hj the colony. From what he had Been in various parts of the colony he felt confident that a reaction against the Government had set in, and that at the next election it would be defeated. Captain Russell was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
