CHRISTCHURCH v. CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

This match was played at Sydenha Park, which was in fairly good order for the game. About two minutes after the start of play a free kick was awarded Christohnrch in the College twenty-five, from which Appleby placed a goal. The College forwards, playing well together, took play into their opponents* territory, and Hallamore had a shot at goal, the hall falling just under the bar. Christohurob came back, and, from a scrummage near the College line, Glendinning passed to Cowlishaw, who scored. No goal was kicked. For the remainder of the apell play was up and down the field, neither side being able to claim, an advantage, although on one occasion Cowlishaw was within an ace of scoring, being collared by Boyce right on the line. Half-way through the second spell L. Harley dodged over, and Appleby converted, making the score eleven to nil. Soon afterwards Borne fast following up on the part of the Chriatchurch forwards enabled Taylor to score, Appleby failing with the kick — fourteen to nil. The College forwards invaded Christchurch territory, but, lack of combination among their backs' prevented a score. Just before the call of time Cowlishaw was brought down when near the College line, and Glendining, securing the ball, scored, an appeal for a throw forward being given against the College. Malet converted* and "no side" was called immediately afterwards, Christ- , church winning by nineteen to nil. Mr J. U. Collins was referee. j
