Arrest.— Constable Fitzgerald arrested ft man to«day on a charge of indecency. Auction Sale.— Messrs Ayers^ Beaubhamp and Co. announce an auction sale i>i furniture and effects, to be held on Monday at Lyttelton. The Rainfall. — The record at the Drainage Board's pumping station, Linwood, shows that rain fell on ten days during last month, the total rainfall being 1*035 inohes, and the mean '03341 o£ an inoh.

Fieh Insttbance Bates.— lt is understood that a conference of representatives Ot fire insurance companies from the various colonies will be held in Melbourne in about a month's time, for the purpose of arranging general scales of rates for the Australian colonies and New Zealand. Kaiapoi Voluntebbs.— Last evening at the inspection parade there was an attendance of about fifty, including SergeantMajor Purves, Captain Thomas Millar and Lieutenant Simpson. The corps wbb put through the manual and firing exercises— the Bword bayonet— asd other movements With credit to all concerned. Volunteer Rifle Association. — The proposal to establish a Volunteer Rifle Association in Canterbury appears to be favourably regarded by the volunteers; and several corps have intimated their willingness to assist such an institution. The matter will be further discussed by the officers on Wednesday next. Thb Missing Man Found. — Philip Uudd, who has been missing since Wednesday last, was found in the sandhills near the estuary by a search party of his friends about nine o'clock tliis morning. He did ttot seem much the worse, and said that he had been living about the sandhills since he left home. He is supposed to be somewhat unsound mentally. Supreme Coubt.— The civil Bittingß of the Supreme Court will open before his Honor Mr Justice Denniston at 11 a.m. on Monday. There are seven actions set down for hearing, for three of which days have been fixed, and special juries granted. The others will be taken before tbe judge alone. There are also three applications in divorce.

Sunday Services. — The Christadelphians will hold services in the Druids' Hall at 11 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. At the Bible Christian Church, Lower High Street, the Eev A. Mitchell will conduct the services* The Sydenham Gospel Mission services will be held at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. Pastor Birch, in connection •with the Chriatchurch Central Mission, •will hold services in the Oddfellows' Hall, Lichfield Street, at 11 a.m. and 6.45 p.m. Asj-fDCTRTON Model Yacht Club.— The third heat of the race for Mr Murray's prize took place on Thursday, and waß won by Miss Stewart's yacht after a close finish. Supreme Court.— Common jurors summoned tor the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, which open on Monday, are informed that their attendance will not; be required. St Michael's Temperance Society.—. The entertainment in aid of the piano fund of this society was repeated in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening, when there was a good attendance. Young Men's Mission.— A meeting in connection with the Young Men's Mission Was held last evening at the Young Men's Christian Association rooms, and was well attended. Mr John Wilkinson, of Dunedin, gave an address. A Bot Missing.— lt haß been reported .to the police that a boy named Percy Dobbs, eleven yearß of age, haß been missing from his home in Peacock Street since Thursday morning. He was then wearing a red knitted cap, gray jacket, blue serge knickerbockers and lace-up boots. Vital Statistics.-— The following are ihe vital statistics for Chrißtchurch and district for tbe month of May :— Births — City : Maleß 17, females 9 ; district : males 55, females 43 ; total 124. Marriages— City 25, district 17; total 42. DeathsCity : Males 21, females 11 ; district : males 20, females 12, -total 64. Por the corresponding month last year the totals ■were :— Births 137, marriages 38, deaths 46. Dunsandel Debating Society..— A ladies' evening in connection with this eociety was held on Wednesday. Songs -were given by Mrs Furze and Misses Kelly, Lill, Irvine, Walker and Deveraur. Mias M. Furze acted as accompanist. A paper was read by Mrs Furze on " Woman's Eights," and Misa Wright and Mißs Irvine contributed readings. An interesting discussion on Mra Furze's paper brought the meeting to a close.
