BANGIOKA BOROUGH COUNOIL.

A special meeting of the above Council waß held last evening to hear and determine objections to the burgess-list. There were present tho Mayor and Councillors Blackett, J. Foster, W. Foster, Graham, Good, Sansom and Jennings. There being no objections to the list, ifc was passed and signed. The motion giving notice of the Council's intention to strike a general rate

From Sir W. B. Pareeval, declining the Council's application for a section in Perceval Street for a recreation ground. From the Treasury, Wellington, notifying payment into Council'a bank account, of £2 163 4id, part expenses of Lioensing Committee elections. From tho Firo Brigade, enclosing annual report and balance-sheet of the brigade. From the

railway traffic manager, declining to comply with a request for a cro3_ingkooper at tho High Street railway crossing. Froin Mr J. Payne, asking to have Queen Street widened opposite his property. It was resolved that tho request could, not be complied with. The Works .Committee reported that Messrs J. Payne and C. King had carried out their asphalting contracts satisfactorily, and payment of their accounts was recommended, together with a progress payment to Mr G. Thompson on his contract. The report was : > adopted. The Town Clerk reported that rates amounting to .£77 2s 3d were unpaid, there being fifty-two defaulters, whose names had been struck off tho burgess list, and theirprivilege t& votiet&kon from theta for a year. It waa also reported that only forty dogß out of one hundred and twenty- ' seven had been registered. It waa resolved that ratfiß not paid by June -11 and dog tax by June 20 be sued for. The financial statement showed receipts £10 14s sd, and Bank credit balance .£179 17s 4d. Accounts amounting to .£llB 9s 3d were pasßad for payment. It was decided to invite offers for -winding and keeping the town clock in order. With reference to on account of j23 lis, from Meaars Slurry aud Son for putting tho town clock in order, it waa resolved to offer £1 15s 6d in full settlement. The actiou of the committee ia extending Mr Murdoch's lease of tho borough reserve until April 15, 1896, was confirmed. Tho Works Committiio, with Councillors Good and Sansora, were requested to report at the next meeting on the question of supplying the town with water provided by thb proposed Waimakariri- Ashley races. The Fire Brigade Committee was asked to bring up a long-promised report with reference to the fire-bell and Brigade requirements. The meeting then terminated. ■
