The Magistrate's Conrt wan occupied all day in hearing a case against Isabella Laws, charged with forging two receipts for £110 5a and .£277 17a, by means of which Bhe procured moneys belonging to the Good Templars, of which her husband is the secretary. The accused was com* nutted for trial.

WAIPAWA, Mat 31. Ebenezer Gray, secretary of the Waipawa Eacing Club, poisoned himself this morning.

WOODVILLE, Mat 31. Mr T. J. Nathan addressed a large meeting pn hia frozen meat scheme. Among those who spoke was Mr W. H. Nelßon, of Nelson Bros. He supported the proposals for consolidation and control, but doubted the possibility of combining retail business at Home with the scheme. Resolutions were passed calling on the Government to convene a conference to discuss the frozen meat question. The meeting was enthusiastic.

DUNEDIN, Mat 31. The Dunedin Assembly of the Knights of Labour has passed resolutions :— (1) That, from the present abnormal rise in the local wheat market, resulting in large financial transactions, the farmers will not derive any benefit, and that the etate of the wheat market outside the colony does not warrant the prices. (2) That in view of the general fall in value of produce, and of the decrease of incomes of all connected *ffith-agricultural and commercial pursuits, the Government be asked to initiate a gradual reduction in the salaries of all civil servants receiving .£2OO and over, including Education Boards.
