If a reduc- : tion were made, it was recommended that ; I a lamp should be eracted each in Madras, ■ Onalow and Colombo Streets, if the funds of the Council would allow. • The report was adopted. • The Special Committee appointed to ' consider the question of a loan, presented its report. It considered that within certain areas it was advisable that channeling and curbing of the footpaths •;. [should be carried out and that steps should j be taken to ascertain the Btreets where ' such work was necessary, and that the Council should then decide as to the steps to be token towards providing funds. The report was adopted and the com- : mittee was empowered to continue to act. A circular from Mr G. W« Resell, M.H.8., with regard to the Local Bodies' Loan Conversion Bill was referred to-the, Finance Committee.

A letter was read from Rhodes's trustees, asking for information as to the manner in which the Municipal Corporations Act had been infringed through the laying out of the continuation of Dean and Cannon Streets on R.S. 263. The Town Clerk was instructed to supply the information.

Councillor Waymouth was appointed to represent the Council at the meeting to consider the unemployed question. The meeting then terminated.
