Heavy Snowstorm.
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Mat 30.
Information has been received that during the snowstorm of Saturday and Sunday, a man engaged at Tarras Station, Vincent County, died of exposure.
A man named Oliver was lost in the snow, and was brought into Pembroke in a very low condition. A Times special states that the people oC Nevis are snowed up for the winter, and have no supplies. The snowstorm was the heaviest ever known in the district.
News from Burkes Pass states that there was a general, though not heavy, fall of snow in the Mackenzie Country last Saturday and Sunday, followed by severe froßts, the thermometer going down to zero. Babbit poisoning was being actively carried on, but the work had been much interrupted by the severe weather. The mail coach has been unable to get across the plain from Tekapo to Pukaki. A swagger became frostbitten on the Wolds Flat, and had great difficulty in making his way to the Tekapo Hotel.
