Th«i Hon J« Carroll haß returned to Auckland from Whakatane, having concludad - his business with the Uriwera Natives at Bnatoki. He says that he does not anticipate further trouble with the Natives respecting the survey, excepting possibly on the part of come of the younger and more turbulent men, who might protest in some way against further survey. When Mr Carroll left Galatea there were seventy-one men there ready to start on road work, and others were to arrive. Road work fiom Galatea to Buatoki, and from Gieborne to Galatea, will be continued during the greater part of the winter should the weather prove favourable. Application has been made by one hundred and fifty Natives of the Puhoe and Ngahinannwa trrbeß for work on the roads, and work has been promised in alternate sections with the Europeans as far aB practicable. Mr Carroll leaves for Giaborne to-morrow, and then goea on to Wellington.
