DISTRESSED BANK CLERKS.

The commercial crisis in Australia. has led to some distress . among bank clerks, and in consequence a movement was started to raise a relief fund. The result wa3 that with the assistance of donation's from England the bank clerks of Australia have,' by monthly payments of shillings and half-crowns, founded a fund which, after relieving every applicant, leaves a Bum of .£474 15s lOd still available for bank clerks out of employment. In the meantime (says the Bankers' Magazine of Australasia) let no bank clerk in the colonies', suffer want. Let it be widely known that any man in any colony who has ever been in banking service can get help from the Bankers' Institute in Melbourne, not doled out as charity, but given cheerfully, with any other sympathy that may be needed. The money has come from England and all the colonies, and is available to all the class. One of the last inquiries was from a gentleman from Germany, but he would only take work, not money, and work is not to be had. The latest cases helped are Sydney men with families in Melbourne.
