A NARROW ESCAPE.
As the tram which left town at half- ! past eight on Saturday evening for _STew Brighton was proceeding along -the road leading past the Publio Cemetery a young man riding a bicycle came up alongside, and began tailing to the passengers on 1 the car. On beiDg hdvißed by the driver not to ride too close to tho tram, for fear of an ac-iident, he returned a saucy answer and immediately shot ahead and tried to cross the line right in frout of the -horses, with the result that he^ had a spill. Fortunately for him, in falling he was thrown olear of the tram, but the horses went over the bicycle, and the machine got under the car and was considerably damaged. As more than one fatal accident has occurred in tbis way riders would do well to be careful not to cross the line in front of a moving tram car.
