The death is announced of M. de l C-iers, aged seventy-five. r [Nicholas Carlovitch de Giers, of [ Swedish origin, was born on May 9, 1820. [ Educated in Russia, he early entered the | Imperial eervioe, holding various diplo- 1 f xnatio appointments, and winning high "honours. In 1875 he was associated with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and two ; y(At3 later was created a Privy Connoillor.
