A bottle message thrown overboard from the Rotokino on June 1, 1894, in latitude 37.24 S , longitude 163.03 15., was picked up on the Whirinaki Beaoh- on Jan. 22. The message was forwarded to Mr C. L. Wragge, by whose request it was thrown overboard. The Rev Thomas Cook, Connexional evangelist, British Methodist Conference, is conducting a ten days- mission in the Pitt Street Church, which is packed nightly. He leaves for the south to-night. WOODVILLE, Jan. 28. The Danevirke Match, three, five and seven hundred yards, seven shotß, was won by Ballinger 87, Humphries and Scott 82, Harford 81, Randall 80. The Feilding Match, ten shots at seven hundred yards, J. Soott 37, Cameron, Ballinger and Kirk 30. Ballinger, of Petone, with the highest aggregate, 312, takes the gold medal ; . Scott, of Feilding, 286, , Wi150n, of Woodville, 283, take silver medals. Woodville No. 1 won the Teams Match with 418, Petone 405. The Last Try, ten shots, five hundred yards, Miller 48, Gray 47, Harford 45. The season is the finest experienced for five years for bush farmers clearing land. WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. The newly-inducted Bishop of Welling" ton was formally welcomed by a crowded social gathering in the drillshed on Saturday night. Among the speakers were Bishops Wordsworth, Cowie, Neville, Julius, Williams, Wilson, the Chief Justice and the Premier. The Bishop of Salisbury said that Dr Wallh's ability to govern had been shown by his successful management of a large body of undergraduates, and if they founded a University College here he would be able to give them very efficient help. Bishop Wallis expressed his pleasure at the inspiriting welcome he and his wife had received, and said that what they wanted in the Church of England was to work and go forward, and he knew that the people of Wellington would support him, TIMARU, Jay. 28. On Saturday night a labourer named Doyle was arrested for being drunk and violent. He frightened his wife and dying child out of the house, and the child died before morning. -_____-___-_-_-_______ '
