[FBOM OVB SPSCIAJt COBBBSPONDBNT.Ijf WELLINGTON, Jan.. 23.^ The cost of the champion yacht Waitangi was £750. It is understood that she and the Mascotta will meet again in the General Handicap Yacht Bace, which is to be sailed next Saturday afternoon. Oar Lyttelton correspondent writes ;-— Considerable interest was manifested in Lyttelton, on Tuesday, in the yacht race at Wellington, in whioh the Lyttelton yachts Mascotte and Pastime competed. General disappointment waß experienced when it was known that neither of the local craft had secured the handsome prize offered by the Wellington Begatta" Committee. Mascotte, since she was launched over four years ago, has met with such success that she had a very large number of supporters: for Tuesday's race, but those thoroughly conversant with the surrounding conditions knew what a difficult task lay before the Lyttelton boats. Waitangv the winner, ia a modern boat in all respects, while Maßcotte's type is from eight to ten years old. She was built more for the old rale of measurement than the present rating rule, and Tuesday was the, tint occasion on which she met an up-to-date boat of anything approaching her own dimensions. Her only hope of success against Waitangi is ia a heavy gale of wind and high sea, and even then it is questionable if the more modern boat would not prove too much for her. >'■./■ . , "
