Exctjebion to Little Bivbb.— An excursion train for school children was run to Little Biver to-day, and was well patronised, about 180 adults and 300 children taking advantage of the trip. : Ltttblton Amatbub Athletic Association.—A meeting of the committee of this, aasooiatioa was held on Tuesday evening, when a programme of races was drawn up, to be got off eaoh week, one race every' Friday evening. To-night the lecturer, will appear at Lyttelton, BICCABTON SoHOOIi COMMITTEE. — The usual monthly meeting took place on Jan.' 21 ; present-'-Captain Garsia (chairman), Messra Brake, Clark, Hanson, Marsh and Wood. The Secretary of . the Board of Education, in forwarding examiners' re-, port,, intimated that the Board considered' it ''extremely satisfactory and highly creditable to the ability and industry of the master.'' This the committee fully endorsed and unanimously passed a vote of thanks to the staff. The Woodwards reported sixteen members at present on the sick fund. The C.E. installed Bro J. W. Hunter as C.8., and Bro Hunter took the obair and installed the other newly-elected officers. The C.E. announced that a publio meeting will be held in the Foresters' Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 29, for the enrolment of women to form a women's court. Further particulars would appear by advertisement at the end of the week. P. C.E. Watts, one of the auditors, read the. annual balance -sheet, which was adopted as read. It showed the Court had expended £596 4s 2d in sick pay and JE2380 5a in medical attendance and medicine. The total value of the Siok Fund on Deo. 31 waa .68128 fia 6d, of whioh J86388 was invested in freehold securities. The net profit on the year was .£438 5s 2d. Members expressed their satisfaction on the result of. the year's working. P.C.E. Bro Bruce was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Management Committee. The action recently taken by the Queensland postal authorities applies to book-post matter. They have refused to accept printed papers from this colony prepaid at one halfpenny each, and are now surcharging any such matter that may be prepaid leaa than one penny.
