While the C hragoa waß at Sam<ba petty officer Preston,, a sober, eteady man fell upon a aworal bayonet, which passed through his l|ody and protruded eight inches from 'his back. By a marvellous chance tb'p vital organs were uninjured. Though his life was at first despaired of, he ta now steadily recovering. On arrivajl hijire he waa taken to the hospital. It is, stated that the affair was an acoidenft.
DUNEDIN, Nov. 23.
A fatal ifcccidbat occurred thiß afternoon. Mrs Fry, of "WHikouaiti, had come into town to do>somel. business for her invalid husband, n farmer. In crossing Princes Street at &rsteep> incline she was knookodj down by a fecnmoar, and before the driver coulfl briilg the car to a standstill she was dragged several yards by the cowcatcher. On beLtg released, it waa found that four ribs hs id been broken, the left arm fractured and tho face and neck greatly contused.
