Richmond.

The second annual general meeting of the Eichmond Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. The captain, Mr F. J. Craddock, occupied the chair, and there vis,, a good attendance of members. Ifc was announced that the president, Mr B. C. Bishop, had decided to give a gold medal -to be competed for during the season. The annual report congratulated the club upon the results of the past season, both financially and from a swimming point of view. Since the inauguration of the. Club on Feb. 10, 1893, the membership had steadily increased, and good work had been done in promoting the art of swimming in the district. The Club had held the first provincial championship decided in a -swimming bath in Canterbury. The Club had been well represented in the various inter-club races held in Canterbury during the j season, and Messrs H. L. Armitage, W. Shaw, W. Bassett,- W. Simpson, J. E. Butterfield, F. H. Bhaw, H. T. Dudley and C. H. Dudley succeeded in getting first and second places in some of tho events, The balance-sheet showed that the receipts had amounted to £51 7a 2sd, and the expenditure to £4S Os 6£d, leaving a credit balance pf £3 6s Bd. Tbe report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows :— President, Mr S. K. Bassett ; vice-presi-dents, Meßsrs R. C. Bishop, E. Hiorns, W. Snowball, H. W. Boss, H. T. Widdowson and D. Barns ; captain, Mr H. L. Armitage; deputy-captain, Mr F. J. Craddock; ..treasurer, Mr C. S. Howard; honorary secretary, Mr George Milne (reelected); assistant honorary sscretary, Mr K. Bassett ; general committee, Messrs W. Bassett, F. Ward, W. Simpson, A. S. Andrews and G. Stevenson; handicapper, Mr G. Milne (re-elected) ; auditors, Meßsrs F. W. Dunnage and A. E. Ridley; vicepresident to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Asociotton, Mr S. K. Bassett; delegate to the Sports Protection Association, Mr F. J. Crfcddock. It was resolved to give two trophies, value £1 Is and 10a j 6d, to the members who induced the greatest number of new members to join ! the Club before Jan.. 81, and to open the Beason on Oct. 13. Mr C. J. Styche* was elected an honorary member in consideration of past services as honorary treasurer. The Seoretary was instructed to write a letter of condolence to Mr C. S. Howard in his sad bereavement. After passing the usual votes of thahka the meeting closed. At a meeting of the committee, held afterwards, Meesrs G. Stevenson, E. Armstrong, G. H. Wood, G. Errington and E. W. Stevens were elected members.
