Govbbj-tkei-t Pabads.— The Kaiapoi Volunteer corps held a Government parade on Friday evening, under Sergeant-Major Purvis. There was an attendance of about Bixty, including officers. The men were exercised in the various drills, and went thjrough the movements with orodit. Before | dismissing the corps Captain T. Miller! addressed IMjn, and said that on Friday, j Oot, 19, Coipnel Gordon would be present ] to inspect their arms and general accoutre- * ments, and he hoped that all would be in , readiness for that evening. , Bangioba Friendly Societies.— The committee appointed to arrange details of the Eangiora Friendly Societies' .excursion met on Friday evening. A letter was received from the Druids' Lodge, suggesting that twopence ehould be added to the price of each ticket to defray expenses. It was resolved to adhere to the price of tickete fixed by the railway authorities, but to mske a collection in the train to meet expenses. It waa decided that excursionists would have to make their own arrangements for aeupplyof hot water; also that Mr J. Beynolds should be asked to select a cricket team to play a match with the Little Biver Club. The secretary was instructed to arrange for a day in the following week to which the excursion should be postponed in the event of Oct. 11 being wqt. Ocher matters of detail were ! arranged and the meeting terminated. ' StJNDA-sr Services. —At the Durham Street Wesleyan Church the Bey F. W. Isitt will preach in the morning and the Bey W. Morley in the evening. At the latter service a selection from the anniversary hymns will be repeated by the Sunday School ohildren. At the East Belt Churoh the Bey W. Morley will preach in the morning and the Bey F. W. leitt in the evening. Mr Mundy will conduct the service, at 7 P«m., at the Sumner Public Schoolroom. At the St Asaph Street Methodist Free Church the Bey J. Hosking will preach at both services. At the Sydenham Baptißt Church, Sunday sohool anniversary services will be held. Speoial music will be sung at aU the services, and the preachers during the day will be the Beve J. Simpson and S. Dawspn and Mr S. Judd. At the Bible Christian Churcb, Lowel. High Street, Mr Wilson will preach in the morning and the Bey A. Mitohell in the evening. In the afternoon a service of song will be Bung- by the choir and friends. Central mission services will be conducted by Pastor Birch at the Oddfellows' Hall ot 11 a.m. and 6.45 p.m. Bangioka Lawn Tennis CiiUß.— The annual meeting of tho above club was held at the Institute Hall, Bangiora, on Friday evening. There was a good attendance. Mr W. N. Cathro was voted to the ohair. The report -and balance-sheet were submitted by Mr W. Toshaoh, secretary. The latter showed subscriptions reoeived ,£Bl, • expenditure £'60 15s 4d, liabilities -818 18s, assets i.16 14s Bd, all but 4s 8d being unpaid subscriptions. Tho balancesheet was adopted. Several votes of thanks were passed. In tho election of officers, Dr Volokman was elected president, Mr E. B. Good vice-president, Mr W. Tosbach secretary and treasurer, and Messrs W. N. Cathro, F. J. Cumberworth, W. Gower, G. Fisher, E. Shorland, E. W. Belpb, and W. Blackett a committee. It was resolved to admit honorary members on -payment of 10s, also that the annual subscription should be—- men 10s ladies ss, with an entrance fee of 10s, and 6b respectively, for new members. The committee was recommended to arrange for the courts to be at the disposal of the ladiea exclusively on Mondays and Thursdays, and for the first and third Safojtfdays in each month to be mixed days. It was deoided to erect a pavilion as soon aa possible. The meeting then terminated.

Cajw no.— The Atlanta Cycling Club held their first run of the season this afternoon. The members gathered in Cathedral Square shortly after half-past two, and then started off on a trip in the direction of Cashmere. Mass MEHT_N6..~The people of the city are called together to-night in Cathedral Square to consider the matter of charitable aid administration in this district. If the weather should be fine it is expeoted there will be a large gathering. SoiiAß Eclipse.— A total eclipse. of the sun takes place to-day, but the totality phase will only be visible on a part of the Eaat African coast. The eclipse begins at 2.31 p.m., and ends at lAI p.m. Shortly before sunset a very small part of the eclipse will be visible in a portion pf this island. \ Opbnikg op the Boating Season. — j Arrangements are in a forward state for | the opening of the boating season, which j takes place on Saturday next. Obitu_lby.— William Tuna PoMo, a! young Native aged twenty-five, grandson of Horomona Fohio, paramount chief of the Middle Island when the first settlements were formed in Otago and Canter- . busy, died at Timaru on Wednesday evening. The body will be taken to Temuka Pah, where the young man had lived, and a large attendance is expected at the tangi and funeral. He was the last male descendant of Horomona. Cu i/nvATOB Tbi_.i<.— ?A trial of the Massey-Harris cultivator was held on Mr G. E. Bhodea'a Meadowbank Estate at Ellesmere, on Thursday. There was a representative gathering of spectators. A paddock of turnips was first operated upon, and the work done was of a very clean and complete description. The machine was then taken into a paddock of twitch, where it appeared to be equally successful in doing its work. New Zealand' Kennel Club. — The adjourned general meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club was held at Coker's Hotel last evening; present— Messrs Galloway and Ferguson (Dunedin), Wark (Nelson), Bisaet (Christchurch), and Bellhouse (honorary secretary). Apologies for absence wera received from MrW. 11. WynnWilliams (President) and Mr E. Dombrain . (vice-president). It was resolved that the statements received from the secretaries of the respective affiliated .clubs, of the position of their clubs with the New Zaaland Kennel Club, should be accepted, subjeot to correction, and that a balancesheet should be prepared and presented to a meeting to be held on Saturday, Oct. 6. Mr Ferguson stated particulars of the esse of disqualification reported by the Dunedin Fanciers' Club. Decision was reserved pending the receipt of the evidence. In the absence of the delegate of the Wellington Club the consideration of the question of removal of the headquarters of the club was adjourned. The election of oncers was also adjourned.
