Band of Hope.— The East Malvem Band of Hope held its monthly meetiog in the Waddiugton schoolroom on Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance. Mr Gamble oacupied the chair. An excellent programme of recitations, songß, a* dialogue and a reading was gene through. The Eev T. H. Lyon gave an interesting address on the Consolidation Bill recently introduced by the Premier, after which it was unanimously resolved to protest against— (l) The abolition of the elective committees; (2) the poll being taken on the day of the general election ; (3) the abolition of the clause by which "no license " votes were counted for reduction ; (4) permitting Licensing Committees to reduce only 5 per cent wben reduction ie carried ; (5) giving power to the committees to cancel endorsements on licenses.
