Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
i ■ ♦ : The monthly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held this afternoon at the City Council Chambers j present — Eev J. Hosking (in the chair), Eev A. Chadowski, Messrs D. Duncan, W. Prudhoe, M. Murphy and E. Foster (assistant secretary and inspector), Mesdamea Irving, A. Wilson and Miss Torlesse. Apologieß for absence were received from Mesdames Jullub and Einsey, and his Worship the Mayor. The Assistant Secretary read the letters he had received from the suburban Borough Councils with regard to the naming. and numbering of carts. Hereported that the annual meeting had been fixed for July 17 at 7.30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. On the suggestion of the Eev A. Chadowski, it was resolved to write to the various School Committees in Christchuroh and suburbs, asking if they would allow collections to be made amongst the children of say one penny a month, for the funds of the Society. It was also resolved to write to the Minister of Education, asking that lessons on kindness to animals should, if possible, be put in the reading books used in the sohoolß. The Inspector reported on the places he had visited during the month. He drew attention to the question of dehorning cattle, and suggested that the Canterbury A. and P. Association should be approached and asked to use its influence to get farmers to dehorn theii cattle when young. Sixtaen cautions had been administered in cases of cruelty, The report was adopted, and it was decided to make the suggested recommendation tc the A. and P. Association. The meeting then terminated.
