For the remainder of the spell the Kaiapoi men more than held their own, and before its close Bate scored a try and Renaldi kicked a penalty goal, the score at half time being seventeen to nil. In the second spell the game was more evenly contested. The College forwards played much better in the scrimmages, and the backs put more life into their work. Buchanan and H. Craddock were very successful in intercepting passes, and half way through the spell Ward found an opening, and after a dodgy iun scored behind the posts. Hallamore failed to increase the score, and the game ended in favour of Kaiapoi by seventeen points to three. . Mr C. HaU acted as referee.

Balch was conspicuous with a splendid run immediately after the kick-o«t, and the Maroons were compelled to act on the defensive for some time.
