Mr Paul, manager of the Ne\r Zea- | land Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, admitted the garbling of Sir J. Ferguson's -speech, but said tbat his intentions in the matter were quite honourable. He stated absolutely that he was ignorant that the report o£ Mr B. Elder, the Australian manager of the company, referred to the company's accounts until it was opened in June. Justice Sir R. Williams said that he was shocked at the statement, which appeared to him to be incredible, and he declared Mr Paul to be incorrigible. The Judge will deliver his statement on Thursday.
