A letter wbb rend from the Lyttelton Seamen's Best Committee asking for a grant in aid of the institution. It was pointed out that the reason for refusing such a grant which the Board bad Bet forth in reply to a previous request— viz., that it had no power to do so under the then existing Act— had, by recent ' legislation, been done away with, inasmuch as an Act was now in force removing the restriction preventing Boards from bo spending money. The institution waa proving itself to be a very useful one, and was well patronised, although it in noway interfered with the work af the Seamen's Home, ita operations being in a different direction. The Chairman eaid that clearly the clause in the Act referred to in no way authorised the Board to make such grants. It allowed an expenditure of XSO, and in all probability that sum would be required for Borne legitimate purpose of the Board. LIFJB-BOAT AT BUHNER. The Chairman reported that the sabCommittee that some time ago had been appointed by the Board, recommended that a suitable boat and applianoes should be ordered from England at a cost not to exceed .£l5O. Communications were read from the Port Levy Boatl Board and the Port . Victoria Boad Board concerning the route which the proposed road should take. Mr Flemming, the Chairman lof the Port Levy Road Board, waited upon the / Harbour Board in this connection. The Chairman said that the question of settling the route was entirely out of the jurisdiction of the Harbour Board. The position waß that a road had to be madefrom the jetty or the Board would not spend any money on repairing it. The mattsrs of detail were for the two Road Boards to settle between themselves. Mr Joyce moved— "That the services of , the Board'a Engineer, Mr .Derbidge, be . granted to the two Road Boards to assist them to determine the road route from Diamond Jetty, and that the Chairman . ' and Mr Peryman decide upon any matter not Bottled." The motion was seconded by Captain.'* Parsons and carried. CBANE POWEB.
