CHRIST'S COLLEGE.

ANNUAL SPORTS. Judges, Messrs C. F. Bourne, E. A. Worthy and T. D. Condell; Starters, Messrs J. Marshall and J. U. Collins ; Timekeepers, Messrs A. Franciß and L. A. Cuff. Weather the reverse of pleasant prevailed throughout yesterday, when the scholars .of Christ's College held their annual sports in the recreation ground at the back of the College buildings. The boys on tho Committee were not as much to the fore as usual, and seemed tp be allowing too much to he done for them. The masters were allowed to take most of the management on their hands, not being very actively seconded by the boys, with whom ought to be most of the management of the carrying out of the sports. There was a good deal of slowness in getting off the eventß. Rain fell steadily in the morning and afternoon, and it speaks volumes for the popularity of the sports that, despite the depressing conditions under which they were held, some eight hundred persons attended and stayed at their posts , from beginning to end of a very lengthy programme. Despite the fact that: the grasil track was somewhat dead, a number of capital performances were recorded in some of the events, and two school records were lowered. The form shown by several of the competitors . was very good, and especially was this the caae with H. H.' Piercy (who won the Old Boys* Champion Cup with sixteen points, F. G. Banks being second with eight | points). Piercy iB without a doubt one of I the best all-round athletes seen at Christ's College. In the Long Jump h.e pat up a fine | performance, 20ft 2m, and with a jump of sft 2£in, accomplished in remarkably good and promising style, won the High Jump. In this event he beat the school record by half an inch. He easily won the 100 yds Race in lOf sec, and starting from scratch finished first in the 200 yds Handicap in the excellent time of 21f aec. He also ran j a dead heat with E. F. J. Grigg in the 120 yds Hurdles, cut out in 16-Jeec, or -g-sec better than the school record. In the 200s da Old Boya' Race, in which several old-time champions took part, F. S. Harley (15yds) was fir3t, D. Matson (3yds) beiug two feet away second, with S. Cox (15yds) and U. Reeves (scr) a yard or two in front of several others, among whom were P. Wood (ecr) and A. P. Lingard (4yds). ■■ ■
