Dbunkennbss. — For thia offence Bernston Unwin and John Allison were each fined 10b and costß, in default forty- eight hourß' imprisonment.— Mary Moxham, who was unable to appear, \-vvaß remanded till to-morrow. Alleged Attempted Suicide.— George Bentley was charged with having, on Sept. 26, attempted to commit suicide by taking a quantity of poison. He pleaded " Guilty." Inspector Broham said he would ask for a remand, as the accused was still weak. Dr Murray-Aynsley stated that, on Sept. 26, the accused came to the Hospital; and said he had been drinking heavily. Witness went to the dispensary to mix him a draught, and, when | he returned, the accused had a bottle in 1 his hand containing poisonous eye-drops, i and said he had done it at last. Witness then treated the accused for poison, and he had recovered, but was still weak and unable to take care of himself. The accused ' was remanded for another week. Stealing Blankets.— Alexander Milne was charged with having, on Oct. 12, stolen two'pairs of blankets value 20s, the property of Jamea Lee Goon, of Manchester Btreet. The accused said he knew nothing of the case. Mrs Lee Goon stated that the accused stayed at her place for a day or so, and that on the afternoon of Oct. 12 he went to lie down. Shortly afterwarda she saw him running down a right-of-way with a pair of blankets. Another pair had been taken and had not . been seen since* Constable B&rrett deposed thatheaweated the accused. He was sentenced to one month's hard labour. Miscellaneous. — Thomas Atkinson, charged with allowing hia chimney to catch on fire, waa fined ss. — James M'Donald, for allowing two cows to wander on the road, was fined 5b and costs.— Edward Bates was charged with having, on Sept. 27, behaved in a way calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. He admitted the clmtge, and wa3 fined 5b and costs.
