WOOLSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

• — An ordinary meeting of the Woolßton Borough Council was held last evening; present— His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Wood, -Hopkins, Milne, Douglass. Anderson and Tanner. Apologies were received for the absence of Councillors Glover and Gimblett. The' Mayor reported that he had attended a meeting of the Midland Eailway League on behalf of the Council. He read a telegram from the Premier, also one from the Secretary of the League, with reference to the railway. Councillor Douglass proposed, Councillor Tanner seconded, and it was carried — " That the Mayor's action in the matter be approved." Hia Worship also said that the Board of Education had decided to name the Ferry Eoad school the Woolßton school, aa it was within the limits of the new Borough. Letters were read from Mr Tanner, M.H.E., and. from Mr Crombie, Commissioner of Taxes, relative to the valuation roll of the annexed districts, and were considered satisfactory. A circular was received from the Masterton Borough Council 'with reference to haying certain amendments made in the Bating Act. The Clerk was instructed to reply that the matter would be considered. A petition was handed in by the residents on Normanby road, asking that the said road might be taken over by the Council, and a legal opinion was read from the Council's solicitor, Mr F. Hunt, to the effect that there was no legal reason why' the prayer of the petition should not be granted. It was resolved that the petition be received, and that a special meeting be called for Thursday, Oct. 19, to further consider the matter. Couucillor Hopkins suggested that all lamps in the district be lighted for one' month longer, which was agreed to. Councillor Douglass suggested that the control of the two lamps in A&hbourne street be transferred from the Heathcote Eoad Board to the Woolstori Borough Council. The suggestion was agreed to. Councillor Anderson's name was added to the Works Committee, and Councillor Hopkins was appointed convener of the By-law Committee. It waa resolved—" That the site for the memorial lamp as chosen by the Works Committee be approved." The Clerk waß instructed to proßeoute all persons having unregistered dogs in their posseasion, and ' to sue for unpaid rateß after Nov. 1 next. After passing various accounts the meeting terminaffid.
