INVEBCABGILL, Oct. 11. At a meeting of Wallace electors held here to-night, it wbb resolved to invite Mr Cuthbert Cowan, formerly the member for Hokonui, to contest the Wallace Beat in the farmers' interests. [Peb Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Mr Travers begins his electoral campaign in Wellington to-night. No other candidate has so far announced when he will epeak. It iB rumoured that the Opposition will bring out Messrs Bell, Duthie and W. Johnston for Wellington. The main roll for Wellington contains 13,000 names, and about 700 have been received since. DUNEDIN, Oct. 12. The general election Is likely to be fixed for Dec. 12. INVEBCARGILL, Oct. 12. Two thousand additional claimß tojvote have been received by the Invercargill Registrar, and the total on the main roll is four thousand one hundred and seventy. Mr M'Nab opens the campaign against the Hon G. F. Bichardson for Mataura, to-night, at Gore. The Hon J. G. Ward is practically assured of a walk over for Awarna. There is likely to be a plethora of candidates for Wallace and Invercargill.
Friends and supporters of the Hon W. P. Beeves are reminded that a meeting will be held at eight o'clock this (Thursday) evening, in the assembly room, Hobba' Buildings, for the purpose of forming a Central Committee. Mr Beeves will deliver a short address, in the course of which he will touch upon certain topics that have been agitating the public mind lately, and will define his position in a manner leaving nothing to be desired on the score of distinctness. Ladies are I especially invited to be present. v i The Eegiatrar of Electors for the Christchurch district took during yesterday about one hundred claims from women, which is a very considerable falling off from the numbers taken previously.
