WORK AND WAGES.
[Special to Pewss Association.] LONDON, July 30. The Miners' Federation has refused to interview the masters, bat has decided to allow its members to resume work at the old rate of wages, men doing so to pay a shilling per day to the strike fund, It is expected that fifty thousand men will at once return to work. The labour leaders intend to appeal to Australia for help for the distressed miners and their families. Oct. 1. The Morning Post states that the dissension among the British miners is encouraging Australia to compete in the coal market. The Executive of the Amalgamated Shearers and Labourers' Union met at Ashburton on Saturday, and passed the Conference expenses. Some correspondence having been read and dealt -with, the Secretary wa3 instructed to take steps for organising the- North Island. Mr M'lntosh was authorised to open branches in Southland, and the Winton and Limehills branches were advised to amalgamate.
