-__ , „ , The annual meeting of the Christchurch I Martini-Heary Eifle Club was held at the City Hotel laat evening, the Captain (Mr jW. B. Scott) occ pying the chair. The compatitiona for the championship were excellently attended, . especially iv the first half o_.the Eeason. fn view, however, of the Club not being in such a good financial position tbis yaar, it would be for members to decide whether the system of giving ammunition prizes should be continued, or wheoher the competitions should be for pointa only. The balancesheet Bhowed a credit of £1 4>n, and there were several subscriptions outstanding. The competitions again resulted in Mr J. E. Wakelin being returned champion of the Club for the paßt season with 30 points, Mr W. B. Scott being second with 24,, and Mr A. Gundersen third with 17. The annual field day on Jan. 2 was very euccessful, aud the thanks of the Club wero duo to those who so liberally gave prizes. Several new members had already joined the Club, and in view of the fact that the" annual meeting of the New Zeatend Rifle Association would be held in: the South Island this' year, considerable interest woyld no doubt be taken ia rifta shooting. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. On the motion of Mr Tozer, seconded by Mr Wakelin, it was decided to discontinue giving ammunition prizes for the present year, it being understood that the championship should be decided in the same way as last year. Ihe following officers wera elected: — Patron, his Excellenoy the Governor; President, Mr H. Wynn-Williams; VicePresidents, Measra J. Gould, Eden George, W. Eeece, F. J. Smith, C. J. Wilson, A. Gundersen, E. Struthers, W. Langdown, E. E. Deacon. M. Davie, H. Kohn, M. Sandstein, W. White, and J. T. Brown; Captain, Mr W. B. Scjttj Sub-captain, Mr J. E. Wakelin j Secretary and Treasurer, Mr H. S. Batchelor j Committee, Messrs T. H. Anderson, W. Taylor, M. Eobertson, J. S. Pf itch, J. C. Adams, sen., E. Hardcastle, G. A. Tozer and J. E. Parker, with the Captain and Sub-captain. The Captain and Sub-captain were appointed Trustees of the rauge. It was decided to open the season on Oct. 21, with matches open to outsiders ; all shooting to be done with MartiniHenry rifles, and the annual prize-firing to take place on New Year's Day. A hearty vota of thanks was passed to Mr W. G. Garrard for services rendered aB custodian and Treasurer ; and also to Mr Hardcastle, the retiring Secretary. It was resolved — "That this Club views with much pleasure the efforts being made to procure a suitable range near Christchnrch fpr the New Zealand Eifle Association's meeting to be held iv March next." •
