Canterbury Liberal Association.
A meeting of the Central Committee was held oh Thursday evening. The ! report stated that the numbors were steadily increasing, and would soon reach 1000, exclusive of the " inreconcilableß ; " that the woman's seotion numbered nearly 200, and waa doing good work enrolling electors, having already enrolled over 1000, and that members would visit the suburbs and the surrounding oountry districts for that purpose. The action taken by the President and Secretary to forward tbe interests of the West Coast Eailway, was approved, and they were instructed to do everything in their power to further that object. The scrutineer gave the re.ult of the ballot for the seleotion of fche candidates for Christohurcb, and the Secretary was instructed to place the reault before Messra Reeves, Collins and Sandford for their consideration. It was resolved-—" Tbat this Association strongly denonnce the action of the Legislative Council in rejecting so many of the policy- Bills of the Government." •MeasEa Abercrombie, Mellor, Muifitt, Roberto, Palmer, Wiieon, Owen and O tiey were added .to the Committee, subject to the approval of the next general meeting. The Committee resolved that the thanks of the people of Canterbury were due to those^members of the House who support , the West Coast Bailway at this critical , poriocf of ito history, and expressed j surprise and regret at the attitude of the ; Government on this question, . o vital to Canterbury and the West Coast, from where it obtains such loyal and hearty support. The platform of the Progressive Liberal Association was read, and the opinion wa3 expressed that, with the exception of the words "progressive" and "prohibition," it was identical, even in name, to the programme and object of the , Canterbury Liberal Association. j
