*—7. A general meeting of members was held in St John's schoolroom on Thursday night, Mr W. I. Ballinger (Vice-President) in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. Mr W. Eneom wrote, resigning his position as President, and on the motion of Mr S. Biltcliffe, seconded by Mr L. Browett, it was resolved that his resignation should be accepted. The Treasurer's report was received with acclamation. It was reported that the membership had increased considerably since last meeting, end the finances were in a healthy condition. A list of the names of fifty-two new members, approved of by the Committee, were submitted to the meeting for confirmation. The election of a President was then dealt with, aud, on the motion of Mir J. M. Douglass, Mr W. I. Ballinger waa unanimously elected to fill the position. It was resolved to hold over the appointment of a Vice-President pending tha adoption of rules. The consideration o| ttie. draft rules brought up by the Committee was then proceeded with. The Committee reported that agents had been appointed ih Linwood, Opawa, Ashbourne, Woolston and Christchuroh to enrol women, and had met with great success, numbers of women having taken advau- ; tage of the facilities offered. On the ' motion of Mr L. Browett, seconded by Mr T. E. Taylor, the following resolution was . carried unanimously and the Secretary instructed to forward it to the Speaker of the Legislative Council : — " That this meeting protests against the aotion of the TJpp«r Bouse in throwing out the Lands ! for Settlement Bill, and it considers the time haß come when all important questions should be submitted to tho I referendum." j
