CONFERENCES ASKED EOR, It has been decided to ask for confer- '. ences with the Legislative Council on the subject of their amendments in the Land Act Amendment Bill and the Workmen's" Wages Bill. THE RATING BILIi. Last night, in Committee on the Eating Bill, Mr Tanner succeeded in introducing a new clause which will be of interest to local bodies. Ifc provides that whenever any local authority annexes any adjacent | area after the passing of the Bill, it will be __ the dnty of the local governing body j losing any territory in thia way, to hand over a valuation roll of the seceding district to the local authority which takea possession of the seceding portion.
