A ROSE BALL.
i \_£_tfi.i..n. Paper.) ' A beautiful _»se ball given at a band- ' some suburban residence had a3 decorations sl wealth of deep red roses that was "little \ short of marvellous. The great staircase ; was roped aud entertwined with garlands of them . they banked the mantels and fire- t places and wreathed the pictures j they ; were massed in low dishes and bunched along dados aud friezes— it would be easier, ' indeed, to tell where they were not in and | about the house than where they were. , Perhaps the most effective use made of them was in the supper room, which for this occasion was a wide piazza built oub and enclosed. The collation was eerved at ; tables seating from twelve to sixteen ' guests eacb, and suspended above every table was a large floral ball of the glowing j blossoms. Streamers of red satin ribbon hung from the balls apparently aa an additional ' decorative feature, but at the end of the ] supper, aa the guests were about to return • to the dancing room, these, streamers were , skilfully jerked by- the attendants and .. 'showers of long-stemmed roses were. let ' down upon the tables, every lady receiving ( a cluster of them. '•
