Kirk, of Hawera, who was arrested in Auckland on the eve of his departure for San Francisco, shows that the debts, all unsecured, amount to ,£1498, the total assets being .£728. The larges. creditors are : — J. Nathan and Co., Wellington, _8649; Cock and Co., Nelson, -6200; Anderson and Co., Dunedin, _£90; David Hay, Oamaru, J. 158 j J. E.itchen and Co., Wellington, .£49 ; Castendyk and Co., Wellington, .640; Hogan and Co., Wanganui, £o0 ; A.H. Nathan, Auckland, _£46. The bankrupt was examined privately by the Official Assignee. He said that about May 17 ho sold out hia bakery business, plant and stack at Hawera for _£947. The proceeds, leEB commission, were paid into his bank, where he bad an overdraft of _£250. On July Bhe returned to business at Hawera as a grocer, purchasing a place for £300, of which he paid £50 deposit. About August 29, as he Tailed to complete his purcliase, he forfeited his deposit, and had to quit the premises. He then Bold off his stock to Sutton for £300, collected £30, and set out for Auokland. He was stopped at Midhurst by a creditor named Connell, whom he satisfied by a payment ou account.
