Yesterday the Eegistrar ofi Electors for Christchurch was kept busy at his office in the Christchurch Resident Magistrate's Court. Durirg office hours- yesterday he accepted 600 claims from women. The Linwood Borough Council office waß kept open last evening, and the Mayor of Linwood, together with Councillor Pentecost and the Town Clerk,^ attended for the purpose of attesting claims. Between 30 and 40 women took advantage of the opportunity to register. By permission of the Mayor of Woolston, the Borough Council Chambers will be kept open from seven to nine this evening, when qualified per -sons wilL be in attendance to witness claims.. The Mayor and Mayoress of Christchurch were in attendance at the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon and attested 70 claims. Afc the annual parish gathering in connection with St Matthew's Church, Sfc Albans, yesterday, forms of claim were kept in the schoolroom, and facilities given for women to enrol. About twenty-five took advantage of the opportunity and signed claims. The candidates who have offered their services in the Liberal interest for the Kaiapoi district addressed a meeting of the Eangiora Liberal Association and supporters, afc the Institute Hall ante-room, on Thursday evening. The attendance numbered about sixty, Mr H, Boyd, President of the Association, being in the chair. The candidates who Bpoke were Messrs H. L. Eogers, J. Miles Verrall, D. Buddo, A. Wright and J. Butt, and each was allowed half an hour in which to explain his views. Afc the close of the addresses balloting pap.rs were distributed, used and collected, the President sealing them up until the candidates had been heard, and balloted for at. Kaiapoi and Oxford. The result of the ballot will not be available until about the middle of next week. The members of the Women's Section of the Canterbury Liberal Association will attend this evening, from seven to nine, at the Woolston Borough Council Office. On Monday they will be in attendance at the Linwood Borough Council Office from two till 4.30 * and on Wednesday at the Library, Prebbleton, from 1.30 to 6 p.m. The Seotion is indefatigable in its efforts to enrol women, and is meeting with much success in that direction. Last evening, Mr T. E. Taylor received a telegram from Sir Robert Stout to the effect that he had definitely decided not to contest the Christchurch seat. The Prohibitionists have decided to run three men in the interests of the direct veto.
