Ashburto n County Council.
An ordinary meeting of the Ashburton County Council was held yesterday ; present—Messrs Hugo Friedlander (in the chair), C. J. Harper, James Brown, D. Camoron, J. Johnstone, and F. Eichards. It was resolved to call for tendera for the maintenance of head works, mains, fords, &c, sad also for the position o£ ranger. ; It was resolved that the matter of allowing dead cheep to remain in the water-race? should be placed in the hands of the Council'a solicitor. j It was agreed to hold over the considers- j tion of the Doric irrigation Bcheme until a report from the EetSlors interested was received. '. On. the motion of Mr Brown, it w&3 decided to put the work in connection with the Hampatsad water, supply in hand at 1 once. The Committee appointed to consider the matter reported that it could make 1 satisfactory arrangements for a connection between the north and south branches of the Aehburton river. The report was' adopted, and it was j resolved to instruct the solicitor to make ' out the necessary deed. j A report in connection with the Mount ; Somers tramway was received from the Committee appointed to. consider the , i matter. j Accounts amounting to .£SOO were passed for payment. ' Messrs Friedlande r, Cameron and Harper were appointed a deputation to wait on the ■ Laud . Board in regard to the payment of " thirds." j I An application from the Amuri County ! i Council for the services of the Council's ! i engineer to report on proposed water- works j in that county was received, but it was 1 resolved that it could not be entertained. An application from Ihe MountHuttEoad i Board asking the Council to maintain the fences on tho approaches to the Rakaia .
