In consequence of statements charging the Ballance Memorial Committee with extravagance, the Secretary submitted his books -for -inspection, showing the total expenditure to date, exclusive of the cost of the public meeting, to have been £26 11s. The Committee considered the amount very satisfactory, as it would have been no more had £2000 been collected instead of £248. At a meeting of the Liberal and Labour Election Convention, a letter was read from Mr M'Lean, M.H.8., suggesting that stepe be taken to repair the breach between certain sections of the Liberal Party in Wellington.
