SHEARERS' AND LABOURERS' UNION.

The usual monthly meeting of the Shearers' and Labourers' Union (Waimate branch) was held in the Foresters' Hall on Tuesday evening, Mr T. Brown presiding. Correspondence was received from the Hon Major Steward, Mr J. W. Kelly, M.H.R., and various Union representatives. It was moved by Mr G. Pearce, and unanimously carried — " That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the Hon Major Steward, Messrs Buick, Meredith, J. W. Kelly, Hall-Jones and Duncan for their efforts to improve shearers' accommodation." Mr Power also received a vote of thanks for his Labour Journal scheme, which will be submitted for consideration at the next conference. A long discussion then ensued regarding support- 1 ing a Labour candidate for the Pareora electorate, and Mr O'Brien was instructed to bring this matter before branches of the Union in the electorate named; also at the next meeting of the Waimate branch for the consideration of conference delegates. After agreeing to meet oh August 5 to appoint delegates and elect a Labour Sports Committee, the proceedings came to a conclusion.
