DRAINAGE BOABD.

The usual meeting of the Christchurch District Drainage Board was held this afternoon; present— Mr G. M'lntyre (in the chair) and Messrs C. J. Mountfort, H. Bonnington, W. J. M' Alpine, H. Crooks, C. Palairet and Smart. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. Deans and H. P. Hill. COKBESPONDENCE. Letters were read from the City Council, concerning the encroachment of the river at the boat sheds; from the Avon Eoad Board, asking for authority to take clay from the new cut ou the river ; from the same, in regard to a fence at Philpot's road. A petition on draicage matters mTuam street, addreßßed to the L'nwood Borough Council, was sent^ with a request that the Board sign it. These letters were considered and attended to. The petition was signed as asked. A petition was received from fifteen residents on the Glandovey and Careg roads, in the district of Bryndwr, praying that a surface drain be constructed to carry off the water from those streets. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report. SECRETARY ANU TREABURER ? S REPORT. The Secretary and Treasurer's report was as follows : — Amount of rates received Bince laat meeting, .£776 2s 4d ; received from other sources, £95 10_ 5d ; expenditure since last meeting, rate account, £357 13s 4d ; amount of 1890 rates outstanding, £54 13s 2d j amount of 1891 rates outstanding, £132 8s lld; amount of 1892 rates outstanding, £759 Os 6d; amount of 1892 rates collected to date, £17,754 Os 6d ; amount of 1893 rates collected to date, £568 2s 7d; amount of debit balance, £8081 19 a. Tbe statement of 1892 rates showed that rates to the amount of £18,513 had been levied, of which £17,753 had been collected and £760 was outstanding in 1892, and £133 of 1891 rates was aleo unpaid. The outstanding rates for 1892 were made up as follows :— Christchurch, £69; Sydenham, £83; Sb Albans, £158; Linwood, £8 ; Woolston, £8; Avon, £2.5; Heathcote, £185; Spreydon, £.. MISCELLANEOUS. The Engineer of the pumping works reported that Eome repairs were necessary to tho valves of the engine. The cost would be about £10 or £12. The amount was vote-J. A pipe-laying license was granted to D-vid Martin. The meeting then adjourned.
