Drunkennbss.— Emily Russell, who had a list of previous convictions recorded against her, and a first offender, were each . fined 5s and cab hire, or in default twentyfour hours imprisonment. Another first offender, who did not appear, was fined 10a and 2s cab hire, with the usual alternative in default. ; Trespassing in Pursuit op Game.— ■ Alexander Pateman, William Pateman, ; John Nißbet and Thomas Cox, four boyp, i whose ages ranged between fourteen and I eighteen years, were charged with trespassing on Edmund Sfeacer's land at .; Cbaney a Corner, in pursuit of game on May 20. All the boys admitted the : offence. Mr Wilding, who appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, stated ; that the charge had been laid nnder , Section 26 of "The Animals Protection ; Act, 1880." On May 20 the four boys, . who were employed at the Belfast Freezing : Factory, were found trespassing on Mr Spencer's land with guns and doge, i Lately a number of boys had been in the : habit of trespassing on the land belonging !to farmers in the neighbourhood of : Chaney's Corner, and the Acoltaatigation Society had decided to try to abate the ; nuisance, which was becoming worse . every day. David Douglass, a ranger i employed by the Canterbury Accli- , matisation Society, deposed that he i had received instructions from Mr Spencer I to stop boys from trespassing on his land ;in pursuit of game. On the date men- : tioned the accused had guns and four dogs , with them. They had not taken out a license to Bhoot game. There were : pheasants, quail, hares and rabbits on Mr 1 Spencer's land. In answer to the Bench ' the bo/s stated that they went on Mr I Spencer'B land fora "near cut,"and the ; dogs followed them. The cbarge against the two smaller boys, William Pateman ; and Cox, was dismissed. Alexander Pateman and Nisbefc were each fined 10a and costs, 12s 6d. The Bench remarked that if the boys repeated the offence a much heavier fine would be inflicted.
