INVERCARGILL NEWS.

[Per Pbess Association.! INVERCARGILL, June 20. A deputation of the Ministers' Association waitedon thelnvercargill South School Committee last night, requesting to be allowed to read portions of the Bible for about ten minutes in the morning after the opening of the school. They pointed out that the plan of permitting religious instruction before or after school hours was not a Bucce3B. If the request were granted, j it was intended to arrange Bible reading I in tbe three town schools. The members of j the Committee agreed that it would be unfair to the Roman Catholics, several of whom attended the school, and would have a tendency, if generally adopted, to upset the present system and to introduce denominationalism. The request was refused, but the ministers were informed that they could have the use of the school for a quarter of an hour before or after closing. I The Hon H. Feldwick left for Wellingi ton to-day. i Measles are very prevalent. One of the town schools has been closed in consequence.
