SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.
The second round was commenced on Saturday under favourable conditions as regards weather and turf. At Sydenham Merivale defeated Sydenham by eighteen ; points to nil, but the play was by no means one-sided. The fine combination oE the Herivala backs and the exceedingly clever play of White were the means of produciDg such a large score. On tho adjoining ground Christchurch reversed the verdict of their first meeting this season by a well-earned victory over Canterbury College by nine points to two. At Kaiapoi the local team unexpectedly defeated Linwood by seven points to four. The following table shows the positions of the Club 3 in matches up to date: — •:
