— »"— — IIP— — The Mayor's Eelief Fund.— A. large number of persons waited on the Mayor oa Saturday morning io a?k for relief from the fund started by him. A number of orders for provisions, blankets, boots and coals were given, but as no contributions have been received from citizens towards the fund, the amount raised by the relief concert was soon exhausted. This the Mayor supplemented by a substantial amount from his own pocket. This also was soon absorbed, and unlesß Borne assistance is rendered him he will be unable to relieve any more cases. , m A thirty-ton telescope, 32ft long,and Sffc in diameter, has just been finished by a firm" in Cleveland, Ohio, for the Government Observatory at Washington.
