The popularity of the paper is rapidly extending, and people who wish to secure the special Saturday number should give their orders to the runners or to the office early in the week. The Attstbalian Mail. — The Wairarapa, with the Australian mail, arrived at the Bluff this morning. Her mails, which include two bags of English correspondence, are expected to reach Ghristchurch by to-morrow'a express. Pollabd's Liliputians.— Mr F. Duval arrived by the Botorua on Saturday to complete arrangements for the appearance at the Theatre Boyal, next Monday, of Pollard's Liliputian Opera Company, which is at present playing a moßt successful second season in Wellington. Political.— The Hon W. P. Beeves will deliver a political address at the Tuam street hall this evening. The chair will be taken by the Mayor of Christchurch. Mr Scobie Mackenzie will address a public meeting at Ashburton to-morrow evening. "Infinite Vabiett." — Meßsrs Bowman and Son advertise aa "all-round auctioneers," a very appropriate term considering they undertake the sale of almost everything: Some idea of the very varied clbbs of goods coming under their business may be gleaned from a perusal of their advertisement. MiNiSTKßiAt.— The Hon W. P. Eeeves arrived from Wellington on Saturday afternoon, and will give an address at the Tuam street hall thiß evening. He was engaged on departmental business to-day, but will be at the Public Works Office, Government Buildings, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to-morrow, when he will be glad to see anyone on public business. The Hon J. 6. Ward arrived from the south by ■ Saturday's express train, and went on to Wellington by the Botorua. The Stdenham Licenses. — The adjourned annual meeting of the Licensing Committees for the four wards of Sydenham was held at noon to-day. Great interest was taken in the proceedings, and the Council Chamber was full to overflowing. Mr Caygill was the only member of the legal protession present. Benewals were granted to the Club and Lancaster Park Hotels, and the following houses, which were closed by the late Committee, were re-opened :— The Southern Croae, Crown, Walthacn Arms, and Sandridge Hotels. The applications for licenses for the Kingston and Sydenham Hotels were refused. The whole proceedings occupied under an hour. Knights of Labour. — The usual weekly session of the Bawhiti Assembly was held in the Druids' Hall on Wednesday. The Master Workman presided. Several candidates were initiated into the Assembly. Lawrence I (2), 30. r Death fboh Poisoning. — Quite an " excitement was caused in Ashburton on 5 Saturday afternoon, when it was reported 1 that Mr L. E. Prilchard, chemist, had died

She immediately called for assistance, and '. Drs Hunter and Leahy wore Boon in attendance, but were unable to relieve the | sufferer, who died shortly after their i arrival. A bottle containing pruasie acid was found near the deceased. An inquest was held on Saturday evening, when the jury returned a verdict " That death had been caused by prusßic acid, self-ad-ministered, while deceased was suffering from temporary insanity."
